About
Parinazz Wennerholm (b.1995) lives and works in her birthplace Gothenburg, Sweden. She has a master’s degree in psychology from the University of Gothenburg and is currently studying in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program in photography at HDK-Valand.
The realization that she could express herself and touch others through her photography came early in Wennerholm’s life. At the age of 12, one of Nan Goldin’s works, Nan and Brian in Bed (1983), sparked a great fascination for the form of expression. With the understanding of photography’s ability to touch the viewer and convey different moods, Wennerholm began to take photographs herself.
Experimenting with different analog techniques and merging new photographs with archival images, she explores themes of exile, displacement, belonging and longing. With parents from Iran and Thailand and a childhood in Sweden her family history and different national affiliations become recurring themes in her work.
Through her work, she asks questions about how the movement between different cultures affects both the individual and the surrounding environment. Her work strives not only to describe and understand these changes but also to make sense of what is being lost in cultural transitions.
